How to do it

  1. Step 1: Setup — check conditions, strap on your leash and warm up your shoulders, hips and back before entering the water
  2. Step 2: Initiation — lie on the board with your chest lifted slightly and paddle out with long, steady strokes
  3. Step 3: Mid-phase — turn the board toward shore, spot your wave and paddle hard as it lifts you
  4. Step 4: End-position — pop up to your feet in one motion, staggered stance, knees soft and eyes up on the wave
  5. Step 5: Return — ride the wave, then paddle back out and reset for the next one
  6. Step 6: Breathing and rhythm reminder — keep a steady paddling rhythm and rest between waves
  7. Step 7: Safety note — know your limits, never surf alone in unfamiliar conditions and respect other surfers
