Ingredients
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup Unsalted butter
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Walnuts
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Cloves
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together unsalted butter and eggs until smooth.
- Add the walnuts to the butter mixture and whisk until combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
- While the melomakarona are baking, prepare the syrup by combining 1 cup of honey and 1 cup of water in a saucepan and bringing to a boil.
- Remove the melomakarona from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to the syrup and letting soak for 10-15 minutes.
- Remove the melomakarona from the syrup and place on a wire rack to cool completely, sprinkling with cloves before serving.
