Ingredients
- 200 g (or 150 g desiccated + water) Fresh grated coconut
- 4–6 Green chilies
- 2 cm piece Ginger
- 2 tbsp Roasted chana dal (optional)
- 10–12 Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 2 tbsp Oil
- to taste Salt
- 100–150 ml (for blending) Water
Method
- In blender: add grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, roasted chana dal, salt → blend with water to smooth paste.
- Tempering: heat oil in small pan → add mustard seeds → let splutter → add urad dal → fry until golden → add curry leaves → fry 10 seconds.
- Pour hot tempering over chutney → mix well.
- Taste & adjust: more salt, more chilies for heat, more water for thinner consistency.
- Serve fresh with idli, dosa, vada, upma — classic South Indian coconut chutney.
