Ingredients

  • 1 lb Thinly sliced beef
  • 1 cup Onion
  • 1 cup Japanese rice
  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Mirin
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup Green onions

Method

  1. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high until shimmering, about 2 minutes, then add beef and cook until browned, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Add onion to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3–4 minutes, then add soy sauce and mirin, stirring to combine and bringing to a boil, cooking until the sauce has thickened, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add Japanese rice to a medium saucepan and cook according to package instructions, about 15–20 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together green onions and 1 tsp of soy sauce, then set aside for garnish.
  5. Return beef to the skillet and stir to combine with the sauce, then serve over Japanese rice and garnish with green onion mixture, ensuring the beef is cooked to desired doneness.
  6. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together and the beef to retain its tenderness.
