Ingredients
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tsp Active dry yeast
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Warm water
- for frying Vegetable oil
- for serving Honey
Method
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt, then whisk until well combined, about 2 minutes.
- Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms, about 5 minutes, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the mixture rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high until it reaches 375°F (190°C), then use a spoon to drop the batter into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the loukoumades for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown, then remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter, then serve the loukoumades warm, drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon, if desired.
- To make the honey syrup, combine the honey and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the syrup has thickened slightly.
- Let the loukoumades cool for 10 minutes before serving, then serve with the honey syrup and enjoy.
