Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 cup Chopped walnuts
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter, then set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, about 4 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together honey, chopped walnuts, large eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms, about 4 minutes, then knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 mm) and place in the prepared baking dish, then bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes, then cut into diamond-shaped pieces and serve warm.
  8. To serve, drizzle with additional honey if desired, and garnish with chopped walnuts.
  9. Bake for an additional 5 minutes if the top is not golden brown, then remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. The katah is ready when it is golden brown and firm to the touch, then let it cool and serve.
