- 1 cup black-eyed peas
- 1 large onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon sazon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- Using a spoon, drop the mixture by tablespoonfuls into the hot oil, forming small dough balls.
- Fry the acarajé until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve the acarajé hot, garnished with chopped cilantro and a side of shrimp or fish.
