Ingredients

  • 1 cup Japanese short-grain rice
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup Green onions
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds

Method

  1. Rinse 1 cup of Japanese short-grain rice thoroughly and cook it according to the package instructions with 1 cup of water and 1/2 tsp of salt, then allow it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Heat 1 tsp of sesame oil in a small saucepan over low heat, then add 1/4 cup of thinly sliced green onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Combine the cooked rice and green onions in a bowl and stir to combine, then sprinkle with 1 tsp of sesame seeds and serve hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired.
  4. To cook the rice, combine it with the water and salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot, or allow it to cool to room temperature and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  6. Serve the gohan hot, garnished with additional green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and enjoy as a simple yet satisfying breakfast dish.
