Ingredients
- 20 Grape leaves
- 1 cup Rice
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1 cup Onion
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 tsp Cumin
- 1 tsp Coriander
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
Method
- Heat oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high until shimmering, about 2 minutes, then add onion and cook stirring occasionally until golden-brown, 6–8 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
- Add ground beef to the skillet, and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add rice, cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper to the skillet, and stir to combine.
- To assemble the mahshi, lay a grape leaf flat on a work surface, with the stem end facing you, and place a tablespoon of the rice mixture in the center of the leaf.
- Fold the stem end over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll the leaf into a neat package, repeating with the remaining grape leaves and filling.
- Place the mahshi in a large pot, seam-side down, and add enough water to cover them, then bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes, or until the grape leaves are tender and the filling is cooked through.
