Ingredients
- 500 g Rock salt (coarse sea salt or kosher salt)
- 1–2 tsp (for pink color) Beetroot powder (natural food-grade)
- 1 tsp (for authenticity) Optional: trace minerals (Himalayan salt blend)
Method
- Start with clean, high-quality coarse rock salt or sea salt (white or off-white).
- In a large bowl, add rock salt → sprinkle beetroot powder evenly over surface.
- Mix thoroughly with clean hands or spoon until color is uniform (start with 1 tsp beetroot → add more for deeper pink).
- Optional: add trace mineral blend or a tiny pinch of iron oxide (food-grade) for more authentic Himalayan mineral look.
- Spread mixture on baking sheet → dry in low oven (50 °C) 1–2 hours or air-dry 24 hours to remove any moisture.
- Once completely dry, grind in spice grinder or mortar to desired texture (fine, medium, or coarse).
- Sift to remove lumps → store in airtight glass jar in cool dry place indefinitely.
- Use as finishing salt, in cooking, or for brining — homemade pink Himalayan-style salt with natural beetroot coloration.
